Ir Prof. Dan Tsang’s Research Article Published on One Earth
Ir Prof. Dan Tsang's research group has recently published an original research article titled “Integrated assessment of deep eutectic solvents questions solvometallurgy as a sustainable recycling approach for lithium-ion batteries” on One Earth, a prestigious sister journal of Cell. One Earth publishes significant original research that seeks to understand and address today's environmental grand challenges. The journal publishes across the full spectrum of global environmental change and sustainability science, providing a single platform to unite research from the natural, social, and applied sciences.
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been claimed as a sustainable approach for mining spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, there has been a lack of accurate and holistic assessment framework thus far. By modelling different battery types and their recycling routes, Ir Prof. Dan Tsang's research group has examined the sustainability of DES metallurgy and revealed that the current routes of using DESs for extracting spent LIBs do not display sufficient technological, economic, and environmental superiority. Accordingly, they proposed potential optimization directions for solvent recovery of spent LIBs. For details, please refer to https://www.cell.com/one-earth/pdf/S2590-3322(23)00441-4.pdf.
We congratulate Ir Prof. Dan Tsang’s research group for publishing their research article on One Earth. We look forward to the continued success of his scientific research and knowledge transfer in the future.
